The 50% Movement has been closely following the national presidential election held on december 7, 2024 in Ghana which brought professor NAANA JANE OPOKU-AGYEMANG to the post of Vice President.
The 50% Movement welcomes professor NAANA JANE OPOKU-AGYEMANG, the new Vice President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
The 50% Movement would like to congratulate professor NAANA JANE OPOKU-AGYEMANG for being the first woman to accede to the position of Vice President in the history of Ghana. The movement would also like to congratulate the people of Ghana for their vote, overwhelming support and understanding of the importance of women’s participation in decision-making as well as equal opportunities to access various positions of responsibility at all levels of decision-making (political, economic and public) in line with the African Union parity standard.
As the United Nations commemorates 30 years of the Beijing Platform for Action, which identifies power and decision-making as one of its 12 core areas of action, the election of professor NAANA JANE OPOKU-AGYEMANG as incoming Vice-President of Ghana and HE DR NETUMBO NDEMUPELILA NANDI-NDAITWAH as President of Namibia, is a triumph for women’s leadership and demonstrates that women’s participation in decision-making and politics is becoming a reality.
The 50% Movement also wishes to commend WILDAF Ghana for all the support they gave to professor NAANA JANE OPOKU-AGYEMANG during the campaign, including endorsing her candidacy and engaging with her in their networks, there by contributing to her success in the national elections as the incoming Vice President.
