Project : Protecting and promoting women’s rights, especially in conflict situations : Training of trainers in legal education and legal aid for women in Guinea and Sierra

Aware of the extent of women’s rights violations in conflict situations that are becoming widespread in our sub-region, the network has, in response to its mission, developed activities aimed at protecting and defending the rights of refugee and displaced women returning to their countries of origin.

Objectives : To strengthen the capacity of women’s organisations in Guinea and Sierra Leone to undertake legal literacy programmes to help refugee women claim their rights under the law.

Results

60 representatives of non-governmental organisations working with refugee women, refugee women’s organisations and staff of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees trained

Protecting and promoting women’s rights, especially in conflict situations

WiLDAF, Sub Regional Office for West Africa was established in April 1997. It is part of a pan African women’s rights network established in 1990, initially based in Harare, but now based in Lomé, Togo. It dedicated to promoting and strengthening strategies which link law and development to increase women’s participation and influence at the community, national and international levels.
